Many are told that traveling away for addiction recovery can be beneficial and it is. In general, traveling provides happiness and helps with moral for many people. When vacation time comes around people will go far out of the way to explore the different regions here on Earth. “What makes traveling so beneficial though?” There is a myriad of answers to that question.
Reflection
Being in a new environment gives one time to self-reflect. Getting out of one’s comfort zone is a step when making a change and having the time to look at some underlying issues to why they have this relationship with addiction.
Safety
Traveling away from one’s environment can provide safety. Staying away from a toxic environment will increase self-esteem and add to their addiction recovery.
Time Away
Having a stressful job or other stressful endeavors can be taxing when recovering from one’s addiction. Time away from those stressors can ease the recovery process for some people.
Accommodations
Going away for rehab will open up options. Finding a rehab facility that suits one’s needs is vital in the recovery program. Having an open mind to travel out-of-state will offer more opportunity to find the right rehab center.
Traveling away for addiction helps with the recovery process. Even outside of addiction many say that exploring a new area acts like “life reset button” as they can reevaluate who they are as a person and move forward in becoming the ideal version of themselves.
Leaving a familiar can be stressful but it also challenges one to adapt to the environment, through that one will gain confidence and self-esteem becoming fearless with future endeavors that come to them.
It can be intimidating leaving behind friends and family to venture out, but it is important to remember that they will not fade away. Close friends and family will always stick around and they will still be there when one returns.
