Nootropics are becoming a favorite amoungst people. They are believed to be safe-to-use smart drugs with no side-effects. The idea behind them is that they act like vitamins and only help the brain enhance its cognitive abilities.
Yes, this sounds amazing; however, drugs like Adderall and nicotine are also considered nootropics. Both of which, are notorious for their addictive capabilities. While Adderall is known for its ability to help those with ADHD and ADD, it still carries harmful side effects with it:
- Insomnia
- Anxiety
- Irritability
- Loss of appetite
- Depression
Lately, there has been a lot of talk about modafinil, which is in the family of nootropics (supposed smart-drugs that are harmless).
Modafinil is designed to help those with sleep disorders such as narcolepsy stay awake during working hours. It is not, however, design to cure one’s sleep disorders; and interestingly enough, there is not enough evidence to show how modafinil keeps one awake. There has been evidence that helps those with ADHD and ADD since it assists with concentration and focus.
While it proclaimed to be world’s first safe smart-drug the side-effects people have reported include:
- Dizziness
- Difficulty sleeping
- Headache
- Skin rashes
Due to its recent appearance, there is barely any research on the drug itself.
In comparison to Adderall, the drug is supposedly less dangerous but can bring similar advantages to the table with effects such as improved energy levels and concentration.
Regardless, drugs are not meant to be used as a cure-all solution to a problem, if that were the case, there would be a lot fewer problems in the world. Adderall, Ritalin, and modafinil are tools that teach the brain to focus and build healthy routines and habits.
One’s own abilities should never be replaced by synthetic pharmaceutical as it simply becomes a crutch for the individual.
