Just in Time

At first, this post might seem like a departure from what we usually talk about around here. But if you stick with me, you’ll see that it relates to our overall general conversation.

The topic of this post is time management. Yeah, that makes it sound as if our post is going to sound like one of those motivational talks for businesspeople. But how we treat time can have a real impact on our lives.

After all, time management is life management. Who doesn’t want to learn ways to better control his or her life? I know I could use some tips.

If we can control our lives better, we’ll probably have less stress and anxiety. As for eliminating stress and anxiety entirely from our lives, I’m not sure if that’s even possible. If you’re a genius who has found a way to do that, could you share it with the rest of us?

Seriously, if we have less stress and anxiety, we’re in a better, healthier frame of mind. We are less likely to do things, such as abusing drugs and alcohol, that will jeopardize this state of mind. Since we’d be feeling better emotionally, we’d be less likely to try to soothe our negative emotions with such substances.

If we manage our time, we manage our anxiety. So without any further delay, here are some ways we can better manage our time:

  • Use calendars. With calendars on smartphones, computers, and other devices, it’s even easier than ever to chart our days. As for other ways to track time, I know that I can’t be the only person who also still uses wall calendars and print planners.
  • Make plans. This can give us a better sense of what we need to do and the time we have to do them.
  • Limit or avoid distractions. If we know that we waste time doing certain things, sometimes it’s best to avoid doing those things entirely, if at all possible.
  • Delegate tasks. No one can do it all. Trying to do everything ourselves just wastes time and sets ourselves up for failure and frustration.
  • Say no. Again, we can’t do it all. We have to consider what’s truly important in our lives and focus on those things.

There are other ways to manage time, of course. You’ve probably found tactics that work for you. These are just some tips that can help us manage our time and minimize our stress.

Are alcohol and drugs ruining your life?

We have taken the necessary precautions to minimize the risk of exposure and transmission of the Coronavirus to those in our treatment programs, allowing them to focus on their recovery.
