Synthetic drugs, legal highs, party pills, and synthetic cannabis are all different names for New Psychoactive Substances (NPS).
NPS is newly created drugs that replicate the effects of weed, cocaine ecstasy, and LSD. The chemicals that are used in these synthetic drugs are ever changing so those who manufacture them will always be one step ahead of the law.
Even though laws are becoming stronger to prevent NPS from selling legally, the production of these drugs are so rapid it still allows room for legal sales… at least for a short period.
Since 2015, there have been over 643 NPS that were registered in the United Nations Office on Drug and Crime.
many believe that these drugs are safe to use due to them being labeled as legal.
That is not the case.
As stated in a previous post, part of the UK’s opioid problem was caused from Spice, a type of synthetic cannabis. And since the chemicals in these drugs are always changing, it is difficult to pinpoint what effects will come from those who use NPS. Many of these NPS does not state a recommended dosage on the label rendering them unregulated and untested.
NPS is a new channel for users to obtain unsafe substances. The drugs themselves do not provide any information towards what ingredients actually go into the drug themselves nor does it provide a recommended dosage.
The severity of these drugs varies from the ever-changing chemicals used in the substance and those who further part take in these drugs are at risk for addition and or overdosing.
